시놉시스 Synopsis
부산 봉래산과 폴란드 우츠의 숲을 오가며, 한국의 산신과 슬라브 신화 속 숲의 정령 레시를 매개로 서로 다른 문화권에 공통적으로 존재해 온 자연의 신성을 찾아간다. 비어 있는 풍경을 응시하는 카메라는 인간과 자연 사이에 남아 있는 보이지 않는 관계를 조용히 드러낸다.
Moving between Bongraesan Mountain in Busan and the forests of Łódź, Poland, this work explores the sacredness of nature shared across different cultures through the Korean mountain spirit, Sanshin, and Leshy, the forest spirit of Slavic mythology. Gazing intently at empty landscapes, the camera quietly reveals the invisible bond that persists between humans and nature.
연출의도 Directing intention
본 영화는 산신 이라는 존재를 출발점으로 자연과 인간 사이에 존재했던 신성이 근대 이후 어떻게 풍경 속에서 사라졌는지를 탐구하는 작품이다. 산신은 불교 이전부터 인간의 삶과 가장 밀접했던 자연신이었으나 도시화와 근대화의 과정 속에서 신앙의 중심에서 점차 밀려나 오늘날에는 전래 동화적 이미지로만 잔존하게 되었다.
본 작업은 무속이나 토속 신앙을 설명하거나 재현하는데 목적을 두지 않는다 오히려 신이 사라진 이후에도 여전히 남아 있는 풍경의 상태와 감각을 영화적으로 포착하는데 초점을 둔다. 이러한 질문은 한국이라는 특정한 지역에 머물지 않고 폴란드 슬라브 신화 속 숲의 정령 레시, ‘(Leshy)’로 확장된다 서로 다른 문화권에서 발견되는 유사한 자연신을 구조적으로 병치함으로써, 인간이 자연을 신성하게 인식해 왔던 보편적 감각이 어떻게 변화해 왔는지를 비교적으로 드러내고자 한다.
영화는 폴란드 우츠 인근의 숲과 부산 영도의 봉래산을 오가며 구성된다 자연 속에서 장시간 지속되는 숏과 최소한의 개입을 통해 관객은 자연을 통한 신성의 감각을 체험하게 된다. 신이 사라진 이후의 비어있는 풍경을 응시함으로써 오늘의 인간과 자연의 관계를 다시 사유하는 시도이다.
This film takes the existence of Sanshin (the Mountain God) as its departure point, exploring how the sacred connection that once existed between nature and humanity faded from the landscape in the modern era. Sanshin was a nature deity deeply intertwined with human life long before the arrival of Buddhism. However, through urbanization and modernization, it was gradually pushed out from the center of belief, surviving today only as a fairytale trope.
This project does not aim to explain or recreate shamanism or folk traditions. Instead, it focuses on cinematically capturing the state and atmosphere of a landscape where the divine has departed yet the environment remains. This inquiry extends beyond the specific context of Korea to include Leshy, the forest spirit of Slavic mythology in Poland. By structurally juxtaposing similar nature deities from different cultures, the film comparatively illuminates how humanity's universal sense of the sacred in nature has evolved over time.
The film moves between the forests near Łódź, Poland, and Mount Bongrae on Yeongdo Island in Busan. Through long, sustained shots of nature and minimal intervention, viewers are invited to experience a sense of divinity through the natural world. By contemplating the empty landscape left behind after the gods have gone, this film seeks to reconsider the relationship between humans and nature today.
